University of Dallas is a small, liberal arts Catholic school in Irving, Texas, just 15 minutes from downtown Dallas. In fact, you can see downtown Dallas from several spots on campus. The three big things we are known for are:
- Location
- Academics
- Basketball
Our Location: Being in the DFW area is very hard to beat compared to other DIII programs, even in our conference. DFW is an excellent place to start a career, as nearly every type of career function and industry is in the largest metropolitan in Texas. Check out the school’s reference to location.
Academics: Simply put, liberal arts ensures students graduate prepared in the top essentials in life, including reading, writing, presenting, formulating opinions, and defending yourself. This is an education that will impact students for the rest of their lives, regardless of major.
How strong is a UD degree? 97% of UD grads are employed or enrolled in graduate programs within 3 months of graduation. UD alums make on average $4K more mid-career than other schools’ graduates.
Our basketball team is known for academics as well – in fact, our 2019-2020 team earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award recognizing outstanding academic achievement of 3.0+ team GPA, an easy feat when all the players earned above a 3.0. For our team, basketball is not a distraction but a motivation to do well in the classroom.

Basketball: The Men’s Basketball Team has the fortunate position of being the hottest sporting event on campus. The gym is central to campus, right next to the school chapel. The Maher Center’s architecture allows for noise to bounce, making UD the best home court environment in the conference.
Head Coach Jarred Samples hails from Arkansas, played at UD, met his wife when they were both students at UD, and has now been the head coach for the past 12 years. He loves UD and is devoted to the development of young men on and off the court. Coach Matt Grahn has been with UD for the past 9 years, coaching basketball since the 90s. Check out the coaches page. Finding a good fit is important, and every team has their strengths. If playing for a special basketball program that has top-level education in a big-time city sounds exciting for you, then University of Dallas might be a great fit.
